The Unemployed

Well, Ben got a part-time summer job that is keeping him pretty busy, but I spend a lot of time nesting now that I'm not teaching anymore. I don't think our apartment has ever been cleaner in the strangest places. I've scrubbed and vacuumed out all of the radiators, for example.
But my latest project is by far my most favorite. I've been working on a blessing dress. I learned how to do some really cool lattice-work smocking when I was doing costumes for Hamlet at BYU, and I've been dying for the chance to put it to use ever since. It's just a simple pattern I purchased, and then I hand smocked the yoke part. It's a cotton dress since Eleanor will be blessed in August (which is stinking hot!). I've also been learning how to embroider because I want to embroider some colored flowers or something along the bottom. Anyway, I just wanted to show off a bit. And justify all my lazing about for the past two weeks.

  1. What a lucky little girl to have such a talented mother. It's very impressive so far. Have fun finishing it!

  3. Nesting isn't lazy. And I think the dress is awesome! How cool that she'll have a blessing dress that her mom actually made!

  5. Lovely dress... I always have a hard time finding a cute one. I'm very jealous of your skills.

Funny, Eleanor was the back-up name for our first daughter Annabelle. We couldn't think of anything we liked better during my second pregnancy so voila! Eleanor. You have excellent taste.

I hope your Eleanor arrives safe and sound - there's definitely room for more than one Eleanor in the family. =)

  6. I'm so jealous, you have to teach me how to do that. I've been doing a lot of sewing lately, too. But my skills aren't nearly at the same level as yours. I just kind of fib my way through things.

I really wish I could be at your thing tomorrow, but we're going out of town tonight, BUT before I realized or remembered that this weekend was the weekend we were going out of town, I already started to make something for little Eleanor. So...with or without my presence tomorrow you'll be getting something, I'll swing it by when we come back. Have fun!
